Nitrocarbourising Process

A thermo chemical process for enrichment of the marginalised layer of the component with nitrogen and carbon.
The result of the treatment is a surface layer consisting of a white layer and a diffusion layer.
( In contrast to nitriding: where only nitrogen is added.)

On completion of a suitable process the white layer after nitrocarbourising consistes mainly of epsilon-nitride

Typical parameters for nitrocarburation:

Temperature: 550 to 580 °C
Duration:        1h to 10 h
